The CBSE Class 1 curriculum serves as a joyful and foundational stepping stone into formal school education. Aligned with the National Education Policy (NEP), the syllabus shifts away from rote memorization and focuses heavily on "Play-based Learning" and conceptual understanding. Its core mission is to foster the holistic development of a child—nurturing their linguistic, logical, creative, and social skills. Core Subjects and Objectives 1. Hindi (Sarangi) – Linguistic Foundation The Hindi curriculum aims to connect young learners naturally with the language through immersive and relatable themes. What they learn: Correct pronunciation of vowels (स्वर), consonants (व्यंजन), basic vowel signs (मात्रा), and building everyday vocabulary. Methodology: Using vibrant poems, rhymes, and short interactive stories about family and nature to develop primary skills: listening, speaking, reading, and writing. 2. English (Mridang) – Global Communication The English syllabus is structured to help children embrace a new language confidently and without hesitation. What they learn: The English alphabet (A-Z), phonics (letter sounds), basic grammar, action words, and framing simple sentences. Methodology: Through action-oriented songs, storytelling, and conversational activities, children learn to express themselves, talk about their families, and describe their immediate surroundings in English. 3. Mathematics (Joyful Mathematics) – Logical Thinking In Class 1, mathematics goes beyond numbers on a page; it is presented as a practical tool to understand the world. What they learn: Counting and writing numbers (1 to 99), basic addition, subtraction, identifying shapes, spatial understanding, and recognizing patterns. Methodology: Using real-world objects like blocks, beads, and toys to build logical reasoning, data handling skills, and problem-solving abilities early on. 4. Environmental Studies (EVS) – Awareness of Surroundings To keep learning stress-free and reduce textbook weight, NCERT integrates EVS concepts directly into the language and mathematics chapters rather than treating it as a separate, heavy subject. What they learn: Parts of the body, family structures, plants, animals, seasons, safety rules, and clean habits (Good Manners). Methodology: Using highly visual elements, observational activities, and nature walks to encourage curiosity and teach children to care for their environment. Core Features of Class 1 Learning Activity-Based Learning: Every chapter is backed by hands-on tasks like drawing, coloring, solving puzzles, and group discussions to keep children actively engaged. Value-Oriented: Stories are carefully chosen to instill essential life values such as empathy, sharing, honesty, respecting elders, and kindness toward animals.
